In the early 20th century, the south side of the tracks held the premier Jersey ranch on the Pacific Coast.

Paramount City (1939-1944)

In 1939, Paramount Pictures announced plans for a studio complex straddling the Southern Pacific tracks. 

Westwood Gardens, a 640-house subdivision, with 6 different floor plans, was developed near the end of World War II by three partners who mass produced houses for defense workers:  Paul Trousdale, Jr., Hyatt Robert Von Dehn, and William Godshall.
